Marbury to join Celtics

Files under Basketball News

Embattled Knicks guard Stephon Marbury could find himself reuniting with an old friend and the near future, and it won’t be with the Knicks. ESPN.com’s Marc Stein is reporting that Marbury could land with the Boston Celtics if he can come to terms on a buyout with the Knicks.

Marbury played with Boston star Kevin Garnett for just over two seasons at the start of his career with Minnesota before he was dealt to the New Jersey Nets.

Another rumor has Quentin Richardson going to the Clippers and David Lee to Portland, with the Knicks getting back Camby and former Knicks first-round pick Channing Frye.

Julius Hodge sits out came due to no pay!

Files under Basketball News

Adelaide 36ers import Julius Hodge sat out the game against the Wollongong Hawks tonight under pressure from his agent not to play due to not being paid.

Julius Hodge’s latest pay cheque was due on December 15 had not been paid into his account before the Sixers’ stunning 109-91 win over reigning champion Melbourne at The Cage on December 27.

His pay still had not successfully been transferred before the 36ers’ New Year’s Eve match against Gold Coast, though Sixers club owner Mal Hemmerling yesterday said he no longer had Hodge’s money in his account.

The issue is still not resolved and hence he did not front up for the 36ers win over the Hawks tonight.

First Sydney now Cairns, Who’s Next?

Files under Basketball News

Well the story has gone from bad to worse for the NBL, with the NBL now having to put a package together to save the Cairns Tiapans after they went into voluntary administration earlier this week. The Cairns Tiapans players will need to take pay cuts of between 30% and 50% in order for the team to survive under the current NBL package and the word on the street is the players will accept it by midday today.

But it does make us wonder, who is next?

Andrew Bogut to subsidise Sydney Spirit

Files under Basketball News

It has been revealed that Andrew Bogut will give up $30,000 a week to help subsidise Sydney Spirit for the remainder of the NBL season. Bogut has close ties with Spirit coach Rob Beveridge who coached the gold medal-winning national team at the 2003 under-20 world championship (the same tournament that spring boarded Bogut on the world stage).

Great work Bogut, but the question is? does this signal Bogut intentions to be more heavily involved in the NBL and maybe even pick up a franchise next year?
